The severe weather resulted in numerous trees being felled and flights experiencing delays across the region. In another alarming incident, a tree fell on a car in Brookfield, Conn., with a mother and her children inside; fortunately, no injuries were reported, albeit the vehicle being severely damaged.
About 50,000 people in the region woke up Thursday without power.

While the rains and winds subsided in the city and its suburbs, the storm persisted, affecting a vast portion of the Northeast and New England. Thursday morning brought tragic news from New Hampshire, where a woman lost her life, and another was hospitalized due to a house fire caused by an explosion.
