Philadelphia Police Clear Pro-Palestinian Encampment at University of Pennsylvania

On the morning of August 14, 2023, the Philadelphia Police Department took action to disperse a two-week encampment of pro-Palestinian demonstrators from the University of Pennsylvania campus, putting an end to a prolonged standoff.

Eyewitness Account

Sahir Muhammad, a 23-year-old graduate of Temple University, recounted the events, stating that the police initiated the arrests at around 6 a.m. He described being physically lifted and removed from the encampment as he was filming the incident. Muhammad further reported being relocated to 34th and Walnut streets, where he regrouped with other demonstrators in an attempt to impede the departure of police vehicles.
