San Francisco 49ers Sign TE Logan Thomas to Bolster Tight End Depth
The San Francisco 49ers sign Logan Thomas, providing crucial depth at tight end behind George Kittle. Thomas brings experience and solid performance.

The San Francisco 49ers have made a significant move to bolster their roster by signing Logan Thomas, the former Commanders tight end, according to the latest reports from NFL Media. This signing comes as the team aims to add depth at the tight end position behind the star player George Kittle.
Impressive Performance
Logan Thomas, aged 32, showcased an impressive performance in the 2020 season, proving to be a valuable asset for his former team. During this season, he made 55 receptions, amassing a total of 496 receiving yards, and securing four touchdowns. His remarkable contribution played a crucial part in the Commanders' unexpected triumph in the NFC East title race in 2020. Throughout his career, Thomas has accumulated 219 receptions, 2,002 yards, and 16 touchdowns while representing the Cardinals, Bills and Commanders.
With Thomas's arrival, the 49ers now benefit from increased depth behind their Pro Bowl player, George Kittle. The young talents like Brayden Willis and Cameron Latu, though promising, lack the experience to provide reliable backup. Thomas not only brings depth but also valuable playoff experience, having started in two playoff games and appearing in three. Notably, during the 2020 wild-card round against the Buccaneers, he demonstrated his capabilities by making five receptions for 74 yards, keeping the Commanders in contention against the eventual Super Bowl champions.
Thomas's addition is expected to significantly strengthen the 49ers' tight end unit, offering both skill and experience to the team's offensive lineup as they prepare for the upcoming season.
