The family of Kaylee Gain, the 16-year-old from St. Louis who was brutally attacked in a viral video, has shared an update on her condition. The road to recovery remains long and uncertain for the young girl following the assault.
Violent Attack Captured on Video
The video that circulated widely showed Kaylee Gain being subjected to a vicious assault on March 8 near Hazelwood East High School in Spanish Lake, Missouri. The footage depicted her head being repeatedly struck against the pavement, resulting in a fractured skull and life-threatening brain swelling and bleeding, as disclosed by the family attorney, Bryan Kaemmerer. Despite the passage of a week since the incident, Kaylee has not regained consciousness.
Legal Actions and Calls for Reforms
Following the attack, a 15-year-old girl was arrested in connection with the assault and is currently detained by St. Louis County Family Court on assault charges. The state's Attorney General, Andrew Bailey, has advocated for trying the perpetrator as an adult and pursuing murder charges if the offense is deemed to have led to a homicide. Bailey emphasized the need for reforms in the juvenile system to address such grave issues and promote accountability.
