Former nurse Heather Pressdee, 41, has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to murder and other charges related to administering excessive doses of insulin to patients.
Extent of the Crime
Pressdee admitted to administering high doses of insulin to 22 patients at five rehabilitation centers across Pennsylvania between 2020 and 2023. Tragically, 17 of these patients died as a result of the overdoses. The victims ranged in age from 43 to 104, indicating the wide-ranging impact of Pressdee's actions.
Additional Charges
Initially charged with killing two nursing home patients and injuring a third, the state attorney general’s office later brought forward more charges, as Pressdee confessed to attempting to kill a total of 19 patients.
The attorney general’s office indicated that first-degree murder charges were filed in cases where "physical evidence" was available. Additionally, attempted-murder charges were filed for cases where the victims survived the excessive insulin dosage or where the cause of death could not be determined.
This tragic case serves as a reminder of the importance of patient safety and the trust placed in medical professionals.
